PLYMOUTH, Wis. –
Ben Busalacchi (
So.-Muskego, Wis.) hammered home 12 kills and
Cameron Ekum (
Sr.-Wales, Wis.) added 11 kills as the Lakeland University men's volleyball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin Lutheran College Thursday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies swept to a 27-25, 25-18, 25-13 win in the first match of the doubleheader and then won the second match in four sets, 25-12, 21-25, 25-11, 25-15. Lakeland improved to 2-1 on the young season while Wisconsin Lutheran dropped to 0-7.
The Muskies shook off a slow start in the first match, perhaps expected after 19 days off after their opener Jan. 21. Lakeland trailed 23-17 late in the set before scoring seven straight points and eventually winning the set on a kill by
Matt Misheck (
Sr.-Oak Forest, Ill.).
The Muskies would cruise through the final two sets of the first match and also dominated the first set of the second
match before hitting a speed bump. Wisconsin Lutheran recovered from an early 10-6 deficit to again get to the doorstep of a win at 23-18. Lakeland responded with three straight points, but then committed a pair of attack errors as the Warriors won the set.
The Muskies responded by dominating the final two sets, trailing only once at 1-0 in the third set before scoring the next 11 points. Lakeland finished the fourth set scoring the match's final five points.
Misheck finished with eight kills in the opener,
Tim Matijevic (
So.-Palatine, Ill.) added six kills and two blocks and Ekum finished with five kills, 25 assists, eight digs and six service aces.
Colin Kenney (
