RIVER FOREST, Ill. –
Zak Keegan (
Fr.-Frankfort, Ill.) singled with two outs in the top of the 10th inning to break a scoreless tie and the Lakeland University baseball team completed a sweep of Concordia University Chicago with a 4-0 victory in the second game of the teams' doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
Keegan's clutch hit backed up a pair of superb Muskies pitching performances on the day that also included an 11-1 win in eight innings in the first game of the twinbill. Lakeland moved to 11-6 overall this season and is now 3-2 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.
The Muskies put together their entire Game 2-winning rally after two were out in the top of the 10th inning.
Tyler LaMack (
So.-Pewaukee, Wis.) walked and
Hunter Frisk (
Jr.-Manteca, Calif.) singled to put runners at first and second, and Keegan followed with a single to center to score LaMack with the game's first run. Lakeland wasn't done, as
Noah Leopold (
Fr.-Appleton, Wis.) delivered a pinch-hit single to score Frisk, and Keegan would score a third run on an errant throw after getting caught in a rundown between third and home.
Kellen Hodges (
So.-Littleton, Colo.) then added an opposite-field single to right to score Leopold for a 4-0 lead.
The extra-inning outburst made a winner of
Brody Fay (
Fr.-Surprise, Ariz.), who pitched nine scoreless innings and allowed just four hits in a pitcher's duel where the teams combined for just seven hits through the first nine innings. Fay struck out six and picked up his third win of the season, while
Gio Ramirez (
Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) came on to pitch a scoreless final inning to close it out.
Lakeland also received a stellar outing from
Peyton Domangue (
So.-Thibodaux, La.) in the first game but also plenty of offense as the game went on in eventually putting away the Cougars early on account of the ten-run rule after seven innings.
Domangue threw an eight-inning complete game and allowed just three hits and one run with five strikeouts. Including a pair of double plays, a baserunner caught stealing and another throw out at second trying to stretch a single into a double, the Cougars advanced just two runners past first base the whole game, both coming when CUC scored its lone run in the seventh inning.
The Muskies by that time had built a 10-0 lead, scoring all of their runs from the fourth inning on. LaMack opened the scoring with a solo home run to lead off the fourth and
Dylan Penny (
Sr.-River Falls, Wis.) added an RBI double. Lakeland then scored four times in the fifth, including a run-scoring double by LaMack, an RBI single by Frisk and a two-run single by Penny.
The Muskies also added two more runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Frisk.
Jack Banks (
Sr.-Mountain View, Calif.) and
Kejuan Harvey (
So.-Elgin, Ill.) also singled in runs as Lakeland scored two more in the seventh and one in the eighth to finish a 15-hit attack in the opener. Penny and Keegan both had three hits and Harvey added two hits.
