The Lakeland University men's soccer team opens Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with a big one right off the bat when it hosts defending conference regular season champion St. Norbert College at 7 p.m. at Taylor Field Wednesday night.

Series history:Â Lakeland and St. Norbert have been meeting in men's soccer since 1974, the very first year of the Muskies' program. The Green Knights won that first meeting by a 6-2 score on Sept. 28, 1974. The teams met on and off before becoming conference rivals last year. St. Norbert has dominated the series and has won the last five meetings, including a 6-0 victory in DePere last year Sept. 15, 2021. The teams' last meeting at Lakeland came Sept. 1, 2016, a 7-1 SNC win. Lakeland last defeated the Green Knights 3-2 in De Pere in the 2014 season as
Paul Elzinga scored the winning goal with 38 seconds remaining in the match.
Lakeland last time out: Won at Beloit 5-1 Saturday
The Muskies bounced back after the Buccaneers scored the match's first goal in the 56th minute, scoring five unanswered goals the rest of the way to stay unbeaten and also give head coach
Rick Mobley his 200th career win as a men's soccer coach.
Michecadet Gethand scored two goals and added an assist,
Cole Cederwall scored for the third time in four matches and
Dirk Dell Adema added his first collegiate goal as Lakeland stayed unbeaten for its best start through four matches since 1982.
St. Norbert last time out: Defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 3-1 Sunday
The Green Knights also rallied in the second half for a win on Sunday, scoring three goals in a stretch of 13 minutes to win the neutral site matchup in Duluth, Minn. Tomas Pazos scored the first goal for SNC at 64:08 of the match, and Tyler Bonin followed with the go-ahead goal just 1:14 later. Stjepan Peharda also added a goal in the 78th minute as St. Norbert won for the first time after two losses and two ties. St. Norbert's slow start out of conference has included a loss to 7th-ranked North Park (Ill.) and ties against Luther (Iowa) and St. Scholastica (Minn.), but the Green Knights were the NACC regular season champions last year in their first season in the league, finishing 10-2 in conference and 12-6-2 overall.
