Series history: 17th meeting, series tied 7-7-2
The series between the Muskies and Cougars has tightened in recent years and in fact was briefly led by Concordia before Lakeland posted a 2-1 win in last year's meeting Sept. 29, 2021. Andres Gonzalez and Michecadet Gethand scored goals, including Gethand in the 48th minute for the go-ahead score. Before last year, CUC had won five of the last six matchups, including a 2-1 win at Taylor Field in the last meeting at Lakeland Oct. 5, 2019. The teams have been meeting since Oct. 14, 2001, when the Muskies edged the Cougars 1-0 in River Forest, Ill., in the teams' first meeting.

Lakeland last time out: Lost at Aurora 3-1 Saturday
The Muskies continued to struggle against a difficult Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schedule, dropping their fourth straight game. Lakeland outshot Aurora 18-13 for the match and posted an 11-7 edge in shots on goal, but the Spartans made their chances count with two goals in the first half and another late in the second. The Muskies evened the score in the 20th minute with an own goal after a misplay by the hosts, but Aurora answered to go ahead just 84 seconds later and never trailed again. Gethand finished with six shot attempts (four on goal) while Carson Galla made four saves in goal for Lakeland.

Concordia last time out: Lost to St. Norbert 2-0 Saturday
The Cougars remained winless on the season with a loss at home to the Green Knights. St. Norbert scored both of its goals in the first half, including one just before halftime, and CUC dropped another close game with its fourth loss by two goals or less, including three losses by a single goal. Nicholas Pahut and Kyle Schultz combined to make seven saves in goal. The Cougars were held scoreless for the sixth straight game, since a 2-1 loss to Wheaton (Ill.) to open the season. Concordia has struggled after finishing 9-7-2 last year and 6-4-2 in conference to qualify for the NACC Tournament, where the Cougars led in the final minute of regulation in their first round game at Benedictine before the Eagles rallied to tie and then won in overtime.
