Series history: 20th meeting, series tied 9-9-1
The series between Lakeland and Ripon has been a close one throughout its history, including the last three matches which have all been decided by one goal. Ripon won the most recent meeting just under a year ago Sept. 5, 2021, scoring twice in the first half before Michecadet Gethand closed the Muskies within a goal in the 83rd minute. Lakeland last defeated the Red Hawks three years ago, scoring a 3-2 win on the road Sept. 22, 2019 as Lizandro Jimenez scored what proved to be the game-winner early in the second half. The last meeting at Lakeland came Sept. 12, 2018, a 1-0 Ripon win as Grant Grywalsky scored the winning goal in the 83rd minute.

About Lakeland: The Muskies begin this season with considerable anticipation after their most successful season in some time a year ago. Lakeland finished 6-7-2 overall and 5-6-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The six wins were the program's most since 2014, and the five NACC wins also were the most in conference since 2011. The Muskies also posted a five-game unbeaten streak late in the season, the program's longest stretch without a loss since 2008. Most of that team returns including Gethand, a first team all-NACC forward the last two years. In addition to the return of nine starters, Lakeland also features a super-sized roster with 47 players.

Ripon last time out: Lost at Wisconsin Lutheran 3-0 Thursday
The Red Hawks have already played their first game this season, falling to Lakeland's NACC foe Wisconsin Lutheran on Thursday. The Warriors bookended a pair of goals just before and after halftime and added a final goal with just over five minutes remaining. Kalan Narance made six saves in goal for Ripon, which finished 5-16-1 last year and went 1-7 in the Midwest Conference. The Red Hawks do return their two leading scorers from last year in Eli Dietzel (6 goals, 4 assists) and Jacob Oppeneer (5 goals, 4 assists).
