LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Lakeland University women's volleyball team finished a 3-0 weekend at the Forester Invitational hosted by Lake Forest College by winning two four-set matches Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies first defeated Trine (Ind.) University 25-19, 25-19, 15-25, 25-18 and then topped Augustana (Ill.) College 25-17, 25-27, 25-19, 25-17. Lakeland completed a productive first weekend of the 2022 season that included four matches over three days, posting a 3-1 record.
The Muskies had a number of players step up with quality hitting performances and outhit both opponents solidly, attacking at better than a .200 rate in both matches.
Katie Metzler (
Jr.-Kewaunee, Wis.) finished with 13 kills in the first match in 22 attacks (.545 hitting percentage).
Maeve Sullivan (
Jr.-Chicago, Ill.) also added 17 digs plus six service aces, serving long stretches in the second and fourth sets against Trine.
Susana Stevens (
So.-Las Cruces, N.M.) warmed up in the second set with 15 kills and
Kelly Swope (
Jr.-Heyworth, Ill.) added 14 kills plus four service aces.
Hailey DeGrave (
Jr.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) added eight kills and
Isabella Westerholm (
So.-Prior Lake, Minn.) posted seven kills with one error in 11 attacks from the middle plus four blocks.
Brelynn Scoles (
Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) added a team-high 13 digs against Augustana and
Emily Duchow (
Sr.-Potter, Wis.) recorded a double-double with 32 assists and 12 digs. Duchow finished with 60 assists on the day.
The Muskies' three wins already puts them two short of their win total for the 2021 season. Lakeland also already has three wins in four or five sets, two more than registered all of last year when the Muskies posted a 1-7 record in matches going at least four sets.
Lakeland next will travel to Oshkosh to take on UW-Stevens Point and then UW-Oshkosh in back-to-back matches starting at 5:30 p.m.
