ROCKFORD, Ill. –
Susana Stevens (
Jr.-Las Cruces, N.M.) set a career high with 19 kills and the Lakeland University women's volleyball team continued to roll, sweeping Rockford University in three sets Saturday afternoon at the Seaver Center.
The Muskies handled business on the road with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-14 victory for their sixth straight win. Lakeland improved to 12-10 overall and also continued to move up the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings, improving to 7-3 in conference and moving into a tie for fourth with St. Norbert College and Benedictine University.
Stevens finished with at least 10 kills in a match for the seventh straight match and the 15th time this season. Her 19 kills bested her previous high of 18 set earlier this season against the University of Wisconsin-Stout, a mark set in a five-set match. The 19 kills are also the second-most in a three-set match in the NACC this season.
The Muskies were in control almost the entire way in the first and third sets. Rockford (7-13 overall, 2-8 NACC) provided its stiffest challenge early in the second set, with a 7-1 run to briefly take a 9-6 lead, but Lakeland took the lead in a six-point run that ended with a kill by
Katie Metzler (
Sr.-Kewaunee, Wis.) to make it 17-12, and the Muskies finished the set on a 16-5 run to take a two-set lead in the match.
Stevens spread her kills around almost evenly, with six kills in each of the first two sets and seven in the third. She especially heated up at the end of sets, with kills on five of the Muskies' last seven points in the second set and three of their final four points including the last two in the third set.
Metzler also finished with 10 kills as Lakeland hit .296 as a team with 50 kills and 13 errors.
Emily Dickmann (
Fr.-Grafton, Wis.) totaled 25 assists and five kills,
Maeve Sullivan (
Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) posted 16 digs and
Brelynn Scoles (
Sr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) added 14 digs.
Kelly Swope (
Sr.-Heyworth, Ill.) and both totaled 16 kills each, including Swope setting a career high while hitting. 448 with only three errors in 29 attacks. also posted 10 kills and
Isabella Westerholm (
Jr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) added eight kills in 12 attacks and a .583 hitting percentage.
Rockford finished hitting .110 with 26 kills and 14 errors, and Alexis Brashaw and Melody Moreno led the Regents with six kills each.
The Muskies go on the road for their next match, traveling to take on St. Norbert College Thursday in a big one for NACC position in De Pere at 7 p.m.
