Series history:Â 1st meeting
Lakeland and Elmhurst are separated by 2 1/2 hours, but the schools have never met before in men's soccer. Elmhurst is a member of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin and is located on the west side of the Chicago area. The Muskies are playing a CCIW opponent for the second time this season, having lost to Carroll 2-1 in the season opener back in September.
Lakeland last time out: Lost to Rockford 1-0 Saturday
The Muskies saw their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament hopes slip away with a narrow loss at home on a rainy Senior Day. Abraham Gonzalez scored the match's lone goal in the 37th minute on a long free kick, and Lakeland could never obtain the equalizer despite holding possession much of the second half. The Muskies finished with a slim 11-10 lead in shot attempts but put just five shots on goal. Eleven seniors were honored at halftime of the game, but with the loss Lakeland was officially elimianted from contention for a spot in the NACC Tournament, with the team's best possible finish now a tie for eighth with Benedictine and Illinois Tech, a tiebreaker that Benedictine would win if it comes into play.
Elmhurst last time out: Defeated Illinois Wesleyan 2-0 Saturday
The Bluejays scored twice in the first half and were in control in a CCIW victory over Illinois Wesleyan. Aiden Ramirez scored the first goal just over seven minutes into the match and Jonathan Mueller follwoed with his team-leading eighth goal in the 27th minute. Aaron The made two saves for the shutout for Elmhurst, which improved to 4-3 in the CCIW with its fourth straight victory.
The Bluejays are playing an NACC team for the third time this season, and just last Monday defeated Concordia Wisconsin 5-1. Elmhurst also has losses to MSOE (2-1) and Dominican (2-0), but six of its eight losses have been decided by two goals or less.
