Series history:Â The Muskies have dominated the all-time series with MSOE, one that dates back to 1981, including a three-set win last year Sept. 20, 2022, when
Maeve Sullivan posted 16 digs and three of Lakeland's 11 service aces in a 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 win. The Raiders had won the previous two meetings, both in Milwaukee, including most recently a five set victory Oct. 12, 2021. Lakeland has largely dominated the series, and though records are incomplete, it is known that the Muskies won 26 straight matches in the series between 1995 and 2009, as well as 10 straight from 2011-19 before MSOE won twice in 2021.
Lakeland last time out: Lost to Aurora 3-0 Saturday
The Muskies played in front of a big crowd on Homecoming but were unable to capitalize on that energy and fell by a 25-23, 25-19, 25-21 score. Lakeland played from behind almost the entire match, including falling behind 6-1 or more at the start of all three sets, and was unable to put a significant scare into the perennial Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference frontrunner Spartans.
Susana Stevens finished with 10 kills,
Roseily Carrasquillo posted 14 assists,
Maeve Sullivan tallied 15 digs and
Katie Metzler finished with five blocks at the net.
The Muskies continued to struggle to find consistency, and have now alternated wins and losses for their last seven matches. Lakeland has hit better than .200 in just four of its first 16 matches, and also was on the wrong end of a 9-2 difference in service aces against Aurora.
MSOE last time out: Lost to Dominican 3-0 Saturday
The Raiders also come in off a conference loss in their last match, dropping a 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 decision to the Stars at home in Milwaukee. MSOE struggled on its attack with a negative hitting mark of -.041 with 18 kills and 23 errors, and also played from behind most of the match, a notable exception coming in the third set when the Raiders bolted to an early 8-3 lead before Dominican scored the next 11 points to take control. Emma Schattschneider led MSOE with seven kills and added 11 digs and Emma Braun finished with 18 digs.
The Raiders come in winless in the NACC, including a five-set loss to Wisconsin Lutheran a week ago Tuesday and losses also to Marian and Illinois Tech. MSOE has already surpassed its overall win total from a year ago, when the Engineers finished 4-21 overall and went 1-12 in conference.
