Series history:Â Lakeland and Wisconsin Lutheran are long-time adversaries in women's volleyball with a series going back at least as far as 1980. Records are incomplete, but in matchups documented in Lakeland record books the Muskies hold a 39-21 lead in the series. The Warriors have had the Muskies' number a bit of late, winning four straight in the series, including a four-set victory last season in Milwaukee. WLC also won the most recent meeting at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium, taking a three-set sweep Sept. 15, 2021. Lakeland's last win over Lutheran goes back to Oct. 22, 2019, a three-set sweep at home that at the time was the Muskies' eighth win in nine meetings in the series.
Lakeland last time out: Defeated Concordia Chicago 3-0 Saturday
The Muskies had a quick afternoon of work in their last match, defeating the Cougars 25-14, 25-11, 25-10 in just 55 minutes. Lakeland dominated in every area, hitting .329 as a team and also adding 11 service aces in the NACC victory.Â
Susana Stevens hammered home nine kills,
Kelly Swope added eight kills and
Ryan Figi finished with four service aces.
Maeve Sullivan also posted 11 digs. Lakeland won for the seventh time in its last eight matches, and with the win combined with other conference results, the Muskies wrapped up the fifth seed in the NACC Tournament and will be on the road to face either Concordia Wisconsin or St. Norbert in the first round, whichever loses those teams' match tonight.
Wisconsin Lutheran last time out: Defeated Rockford 3-0 Saturday
The Warrior come in off a win in their final home match of the season, defeating the Regents 25-22, 25-21, 25-20. Kayla Wigley finished with eight kills, Bailey Halliburton and Amahra Matthai both added seven kills each in a balanced offensive attack that produced a .209 hitting percentage, WLC's fifth-best hitting mark this season in 24 matches. Kylee Gnabasik also posted 19 digs and Halliburton added four service aces.
The Warriors enter with a 5-7 record in the NACC but are out of the conference tournament picture, even with two spots up for grabs entering Thursday's final evening of league play. WLC can do no better than a tie for seventh in the final standings, and would lose a three-way tiebreaker with Dominican and Marian and would also come up short of the field in a four-way tiebreaker with those two and Illinois Tech.
