Series history: 43rd meeting, Lawrence leads 29-13
The series between Lakeland and Lawrence dates all the way back to 1934, the Muskies' second year of intercollegiate basketball. The teams met regularly in those early years but played much more sporadically until recent years, as this marks the fifth meeting between the schools in six years. The Vikings won last year's game over Thanksgiving weekend, posting an 82-68 victory at home in Appleton by outscoring the Muskies 44-24 in the second half. Lakeland last defeated Lawrence two years ago here at the Woltzen Gymnasium, prevailing 78-74 at home Dec. 17, 2021 in a game that included 14 lead changes. Among the teams' previous meetings was one in the first round of the 2004 NCAA Division III Tournament, where Lawrence coasted to an 86-51 win in the Muskies' lone D-III tourney appearance.

Lakeland last time out: Defeated Martin Luther (Minn.) 100-90 (OT) Tuesday
The Muskies escaped against the Knights on Tuesday at home, rallying from four points down with just over a minute left to force overtime and then outscoring MLC 15-5 in the extra session. Lakeland trailed for the final 7 1/2 minutes of regulation until a tying layup by Isaiah Hammond with 18 seconds left, but recovered for its first win of the season. Cam Jaeger scored a career-high 34 points, and with his final point with less than four seconds in overtime he reached 1,000 career points, making him the 42nd player in Muskies men's basketball history to hit that milestone. Isaiah Hammond also scored 23 points to tie his career high, Caleb Fuller added 11 points off the bench and freshman Jaxson Provost added four steals.

Lawrence last time out: Lost at Wisconsin Lutheran 79-67 last Saturday
The Vikings have been idle since a week ago, when they lost their second straight to a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opponent after falling to St. Norbert two days earlier. Adnan Sarancic finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds but Wisconsin Lutheran shot 51.7% and played from ahead the whole way, leading by as much as 15 points in both halves. The Vikings did battle throughout, and closed within six points points with just under six minutes left in the game but could get no closer. Matthew Kaznikov also piled up 18 points and seven rebounds and freshman Hogan Demovsky added 11 points for Lawrence, which shot 40.7% for the game.

About the Vikings: Lawrence has lost four straight against a difficult schedule to start the season, having also fallen to North Park (Ill.) and UW-Stevens Point in addition to losing to the top two teams last year in the NACC. The Vikings are led by three seniors in Kaznikov, Sarancic and Jake Fisher, the teams' top three scorers early in the season, but otherwise are a very young team with eight freshmen, including five playing regular minutes. Lawrence finished 9-16 overall last year and posted a 6-10 mark in the Midwest Conference.
