DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Lakeland University baseball team closed out its spring break trip to Florida with a pair of losses, falling to Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University by scores of 5-1 and 11-2 Friday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park.

The Lions scored a run with two outs in the first inning of the opener against Lakeland starter Andrew Krause (Fr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.), and the 1-0 score held until MSJ scored four times in the fourth. Kevin Schaaf recorded the big blow with a three-run double, and the Lions took advantage of two Muskies errors to score two unearned runs in the frame.

Lakeland scored its lone run in the sixth. Armaan Sharma (Fr.-Pinole, Calif.) and Kellen Hodges (Jr.-Littleton, Colo.) led off the inning with singles and Lane Sobieski (Sr.-Berlin, Wis.) later singled to drive in Sharma.

Krause took the loss, pitching 6 1/3 innings and allowing nine hits and five runs (three earned) with five strikeouts and three walks. Aidan Post and Brendan Hosler combined to scatter five hits, with Post throwing five innings and allowing two hits with five strikeouts to earn the win.

Mount St. Joseph would score three runs in the second to take the lead in the second game, and the Lions would blow it open with five runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Anton Mere went 3-for-4 for MSJ with two RBIs and Andrew Harrison drove in three runs, including a two-run double to open the scoring in the second.
