Box Score PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Lakeland University men's volleyball team got off to a good start but Benedictine University pulled out a close first set and then rolled to a three-set win Friday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Eagles pulled out a close first set and then went on to complete a 25-23, 25-11, 25-13 win. The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference leaders won their eighth straight match, while the Muskies dropped to 6-14 overall and 1-7 in the NACC.
Lakeland pushed Benedictine (12-6 overall, 7-0 NACC) in a first set that included 14 ties and four lead changes. The teams were tied at 23-23 before the Eagles closed out the set with the final two points.
The Muskies hit .118 in the first set with 12 kills, but would record just 11 kills the rest of the match over the final two sets. Benedictine, by contrast, picked up the pace, hitting .733 in the second set with 12 kills and just one error in 15 swings, and then attack at a .409 clip in the final set with 11 kills and two errors.
Hunter Henson (
Fr.-Menomonee Falls, Wis.) led Lakeland with seven kills and
Tim Matijevic (
Jr.-Palatine, Ill.) added six kills.
Drew Green (
Sr.-Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the Muskies with six digs,
Chase Anderson (
Fr.-Hartford, Wis.) totaled 21 assists and
Jordan Davis-Troller (
Fr.-Cottage Grove, Wis.) notched four kills plus two block assists.
Chase Olson led Benedictine with 10 kills, Nathan Klimisch added eight kills and Sanchit Khaitan finished with 31 assists.
Lakeland is back home again Wednesday when it hosts Concordia University Wisconsin for a 6 p.m. start.
