ROCKFORD, Ill. –
Hunter Henson (
Fr.-Menomonee Falls, Wis.) had another big match with 14 kills but the Lakeland University men's volleyball team fell again in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with a three-set loss at Rockford University Wednesday night.
The Regents prevailed 25-20, 25-18, 25-22, avenging a five-set loss to the Muskies earlier this season in a non-conference match. Lakeland lost its fourth straight NACC match, dropping to 5-11 overall and 0-4 in conference.
The Muskies had opportunities to sway the match in the first and third sets but for the night had trouble slowing down Rockford's attack. The Regents (5-7 overall, 1-3 NACC) hit .329 with 33 kills and just 10 errors in 70 attack attempts.
The teams were tied at 18-18 in the first set after a kill by
Tim Matijevic (
Jr.-Palatine, Ill.)., but Rockford would finish the set on a 7-2 run, capped by a Muskies service error. The Regents were in charge in the second set, but the Muskies took a five-point lead at 15-10 in the third set and led 20-18 late in the second. Rockford would follow with four straight points, though, and would wrap it up on the second match point with a kill by Joaquin Santillan.
Henson finished with 14 kills with four errors in 27 attacks for a .370 hitting percentage and also paced the team with six digs. No other Muskie finished with more than the four kills, though, with Matijevic and
Ben Busalacchi (
Jr.-Muskego, Wis.) both reaching that mark.
Chase Anderson (
Fr.-Hartford, Wis.) totaled 18 assists and
Martin Carrillo (
Sr.-Michoacan, Mexico) added eight assists.
Jakob Donohue (
Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) added three kills plus two service aces.
Santillan led Rockford with 10 kills and a .600 attack percentage. Joseph Hinckley added eight kills and Da'Quan Bates finished with 10 digs.
The Muskies compete again Friday with a triangular hosted by Aurora University. The Muskies will take on the Spartans in an NACC match at 2:30 p.m., and then will take on Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University at 5 p.m. in a non-conference match.
