LISLE, Ill. – Benedictine University put up big numbers in both games and the Lakeland University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to open its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schedule Saturday.
The Eagles won the first game 16-6 and then rolled by a 14-3 score in the second game. Both games ended in seven innings on account of the 10-run rule.
Lakeland remained winless on the season at 0-11 overall as Benedictine (11-5 overall, 2-2 NACC) hammered out 18 hits in both games. The Eagles also took advantage of six Muskies errors on the day, including five in the first game that resulted in nine unearned runs.
Lane Sobieski (
Sr.-Berlin, Wis.) has a good day at the plate for Lakeland with five hits over the two games. Sobieski went 3-for-3 in the first game with two runs batted in and three runs scored, including a solo home run, and the senior right fielder also went 2-for-3 and drove in a run in the second game.
Tyler LaMack (
Sr.-Pewaukee, Wis.) also drove in two runs in the first game with a pair of sacrifice flies, and added two hits and two runs scored in the second game.
Chris Day (
Fr.-Victorville, Calif.) added two hits on the day including an RBI and a run scored.
Logan Gregorio and Brennan Fisher both had huge days to lead Benedictine. Gregorio went 5-for-5 in the first game with four RBIs and four runs scored and added three hits and three more RBIs in the second game. Fisher posted two hits and drove in three in the first game and then went 4-for-4 with two homers, four RBIs and three runs scored in the nightcap.
The Muskies are in action again Sunday, staying in the Chicago area to face Illinois Institute of Technology for a twinbill starting at noon. The games were originally scheduled to be played at Lakeland but field conditions resulted in the games being moved to Illinois Tech's home field.
