Muskies charge past Alverno for NACC women’s tennis sweep

MILWAUKEE – Mary Blossom (So.-Farmington Hills, Mich.) earned her first win at No. 1 singles and the Lakeland University women's tennis team swept Alverno College 9-0 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference dual Wednesday night.

Blossom swept Alverno's Riley Spencer 6-0, 6-0 in singles, one of four Muskies to win their singles matches without losing a game. Including doubles play, Lakeland dropped seven games total in the dual in improving to 2-1 overall this season and 1-1 in the NACC.

Baylee Babcock (Sr.-Mauston, Wis.), Sadie Conway (Sr.-Monroe, Wis.) and Sydnee Conway (Fr.-Monroe, Wis.) all also won their singles matches without losing a game at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Babcock and Sydnee Conway also added an 8-0 victory over Yesenia Perez-Velazquez and Ivonna Gentry at No. 3 doubles.

Olivia Heling (So.-West Bend, Wis.) and Kassidee Webb (So.-Castroville, Texas) also won their singles matches, both losing just one game each. The two also teamed up to defeat Spencer and Morgan Golabowski 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Blossom and Sadie Conway defeated Alverno's Elizabeth Wolf-Nowak and Michael Iran 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.

The Muskies are back home Saturday when they host Illinois Institute of Technology at 10 a.m. The dual will take place on the courts at Plymouth High School in Plymouth.
