Lakeland at last makes its season home men's soccer debut Wednesday against MSOE

After six straight games away from home to start the season, the Lakeland University men's soccer team finally plays its home opener Wednesday when it welcomes Milwaukee School of Engineering at Taylor Field at 7 p.m.

Series history: All-time records are incomplete, but Lakeland and Milwaukee School of Engineering have been meeting since at least 1983. The Raiders hold a 30-16-3 lead in known matches since 1983, and have won the last three matchups between the schools. MSOE prevailed 2-0 last year in Milwaukee Sept. 21, 2022 as Freddy Comparato and Nathan Dresen scored goals for the Raiders, and the Engineers also posted a 5-1 win in the teams' most recent matchup at Taylor Field Sept. 22, 2021. Joseph Reyes scored the lone goal for the Muskies in that game. Lakeland's last win in the series came in the 2020-21 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference spring season, abbreviated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lakeland won March 17, 2021 as Michecadet Gethand scored the match's lone goal in a 1-0 victory.

Lakeland last time out: Won at Concordia Chicago 4-2 Saturday
The Muskies earned their first conference win of the season, coming back from a 2-1 deficit in the first half and scoring the go-ahead goal in the second half. Michael Barragan tallied what proved to be the game-winner in the 65th minute, and four players in all scored goals for Lakeland including Jordan Davis-Troller, Gethand and Dirk Dell Adema. Reyes, Barragan and Carson Galla added assists and Ben Taylor earned the win in goal making nine saves. The Muskies rebounded for a win after falling to St. Norbert 1-0 in their conference opener last Wednesday, and won for the second time this season while playing their first six games away from home.

MSOE last time out: Defeated Carthage 3-1 Sunday
The Raiders completed two wins in two days with a non-conference victory Sunday afternoon at home. MSOE's Daniel D'Amato scored the go-ahead goal in the 60th minute to break a 1-1 tie, and Nico Picha added an insurance goal with less than seven minutes left in the game. The Raiders won despite being outshot 17-9, though both teams finished with six shots on goal. MSOE also defeated Edgewood 4-1 on Saturday in its first NACC match of the season. The Raiders were one of three tri-champions in the NACC last season and have long been one of the conference's top programs, winning three regular season titles and three tourney titles since 2014.
