WATERTOWN, Wis. –
Marlen Reyes (
Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) scored three goals and
Chloe Bartlett (
Fr.-Canton, Ill.) added a goal and three assists as the Lakeland University women's soccer team rallied from an early deficit to defeat Maranatha Baptist University 6-3 Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference match.
The Muskies scored four times in the second half, breaking a 2-2 tie at halftime and winning for the second time this season. Lakeland is now 2-1 on the season while Maranatha Baptist dropped to 0-3.
The Sabercats were the ones to come out strong at the start, scoring twice in the first 15 minutes including the first goal just 37 seconds into the match. Amelia Schroeder scored both goals, including the opener and a second at 14:48 of the match to put the Muskies in a 2-0 hole.
Lakeland answered with a pair of goals, the first from Bartlett in the 31st minute, an unassisted goal for her first collegiate goal. Freshman
Bailey Johnson (
Sheboygan, Wis.) followed with a goal just over three minutes later for her first collegiate tally to tie the score at 2-2.
The Muskies took the lead for the first time less than six minutes into the second half with the first of three straight goals by Reyes. Bartlett and
Alondra Reyes (
Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) assisted as Lakeland took the lead at 50:52 of the match, and the Muskies added on just 26 seconds later with another goal, with Bartlett assisting on the second goal by
Marlen Reyes making it 4-2.
Maranatha's Mallory Willette scored in the 58th minute to get the hosts back within a goal, but
Marlen Reyes provided insurance with an unassisted goal with just over 21 minutes left in the match. She notched her first collegiate hat trick and first by a Muskie since sister
Alondra Reyes scored four goals against Mount Mary in last year's season opener.
Lakeland added one final goal with 12 seconds left in the match as
Taytum Theobald (
Fr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) scored her second goal of the season, with assists from Bartlett and
Alondra Reyes.
The Muskies finished with a huge 45-5 advantage in shot attempts, including a 23-5 lead in shots on goal.
Faith Turley (
Sr.-Lincoln, Ill.) saved two shots for Lakeland while Chloe Dodd made 17 saves for Maranatha.
The Muskies are on the road again Saturday when they travel to face Augustana (Ill.) College at 2 p.m. in Rock Island, Ill.
