Series history:Â 22nd meeting, Dominican leads 21-0
The Stars have long been the standard for Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference men's soccer, having won 12 regular season titles and 14 tournament titles in the league's 18 years of play. The Muskies have never beaten Dominican, though last year was one of the closer games between the teams as the Stars prevailed 2-0 at home in River Forest, Ill. Dominican won the teams' last meeting here at Taylor Field 4-0 on Sept. 17, 2022. The two closest matchups came in 2010 and 2011, when Dominican won by scores of 1-0 and 2-1 in consecutive years.
Lakeland last time out: Lost at Benedictine 5-2 Saturday
A game that was scoreless at halftime didn't stay that way for long as the Eagles scored just 25 seconds into the second half. The scoring continued from there, with Benedictine building a 4-0 lead before the Muskies scored back-to-back goals late.
Westin Hoffman scored the first goal on a play where no less than five Lakeland players touched the ball in a span of five seconds, with
Ben Taylor,
Porter Gigstead and
Aldo Rangel all involved and
Jordan Davis-Troller getting the official assist. Davis-Troller then added his first goal of the season on a free kick seven minutes later. The Muskies and Eagles finished in a 14-14 tie in shot attempts.
Matt English made four saves in goal in his first Lakeland start.
Dominican last time out: Tied St. Norbert 1-1 Saturday
The Stars came out with a tie at home against the Green Knights Saturday in a hard-fought, evenly matched game between two of the top teams in the NACC. Zach Gamster got Dominican on the board in the 41st minute with a goal assisted on by Jonathan Almaguer. SNC came back to tie just over 15 minutes into the second half, and the game was a stalemate the rest of the way. Shane Marinkovich made three saves in goal for the Stars.
Dominican this season has NACC ties with St. Norbert and Aurora plus a win over Benedictine. The Stars finished 14-4-3 overall last year, placed third in the NACC regular season, and defeated top seed MSOE to win the NACC Tournament championship.
