Series history: Lakeland and Maranatha Baptist continue their long-running series in men's soccer that dates all the way back to Oct. 1, 1979, a 5-1 Maranatha win. Series records are incomplete, but in meetings documented in Lakeland records the Muskies hold a 26-11 lead over the Sabercats (formerly known for many years as the Crusaders). The teams have met each of the previous two years, including an 8-1 Muskies win on the road in Watertown Sept. 5, 2023 as Michael Barragan recorded a hat trick and five others scored one goal each. Lakeland also won the last meeting at Taylor Field, a 4-0 victory in 2022. MBU's last win over the Muskies came in 2019, a 2-0 win at home in Watertown.

Lakeland last time out: Lost at Illinois Tech 6-0 Saturday
The Muskies had a rough day on the road in their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match, as the Scarlet Hawks scored twice in the first 18 minutes and then blew the game open late with three goals in the final 12 minutes. Six different players scored goals for IIT and Lakeland was unable to build on its win over Wisconsin Lutheran earlier in the week, posting just one shot on goal as Illinois Tech finished with a 17-6 advantage in shots. Matt English and Zach Heiman shared time in goal, including English making his first start of the season, and the two combined for four saves. Tech avenged a 5-0 loss to Lakeland the year before.

Lakeland hits its final homestand of the season this week with three home matches over five days, including non-conference matches today and tomorrow and Saturday's match against Edgewood.

Maranatha Baptist last time out: Won at Faith Baptist Bible (Iowa) 3-0 Saturday
The Sabercats received a goal from Michael Doese in the 25th minute and held a 1-0 lead much of the way before Pedro Ribeiro and Landon Broere scored back-to-back tallies in the 84th and 87th minutes to put the game away. Ian Balyo made three saves for the shutout as Maranatha outshot the Eagles 20-8.

Maranatha is a former member of the NACC that now competes as an NCAA Division III and National Christian College Athletic Association independent. The Sabercats have already tied and are looking to surpass their win total from all of last season.
