KOHLER –
Olivia Heling (
Jr.-West Bend, Wis.) earned her second straight win at Number 1 singles for the Lakeland University women's tennis team in a 6-1 dual loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering Saturday in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Sports Core.
Heling defeated Karley Way 6-2, 6-2 to improve to 2-5 in singles play this season, a record that doesn't count an unfinished match against Concordia University Chicago earlier in the season that was left unfinished due to darkness with her one game away from victory. Her win was the highlight on Saturday for the Muskies (1-7 overall, 1-6 NACC) against one of the better teams in the conference.
MSOE (6-3 overall, 6-1 NACC) won the remaining eight matches, including all three at doubles for the doubles point in the team score plus five singles matches. Lakeland's closest match in doubles came at No. 1 with Heling and
Alexis Labonte (
Fr.-Portage, Ind.) being defeated by Way and Gabriella Haensgen 6-2.
Yuu Narita (
Jr.-Tokyo, Japan) had the most competitive match in defeat for the Muskies. Narita was blanked in the first set but challenged in the second set before falling to Michaela Haensgen 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
Lakeland is home again Wednesday when it faces Marian University for its final home dual of the fall at 5 p.m. at Sports Core.
