Series history:Â 132nd meeting, Concordia Wisconsin leads 69-62
The series between the Muskies and Falcons is a long and frequently very evenly matched one that dates back more than 80 years. This is the teams' only meeting of the 2023-24 season and the second straight matchup at the Woltzen Gymnasium. Lakeland won the last meeting in both teams' season finale last year, running off to a 107-92 victory by tying a school record with 23 made three-pointers. Concordia's last win in the series came earlier in that season, a 90-66 victory at home in Mequon back on Jan. 10, 2023. The series dates all the way back to Dec. 17, 1938, when then-Mission House College defeated Concordia College of Milwaukee 47-32.
Lakeland last time out: Lost to Dominican 104-100 (OT) Wednesday
The Muskies lost another close one, as the Stars took the lead for good on a three-point play with 27 seconds left in overtime and closed it out with two free throws with seven seconds left. Lakeland sent the game to an extra session when
Cam Jaeger hit a tying three-pointer with four seconds left in regulation, the Muskies' second straight overtime game at home and their fourth to go extra time this year. Dominican prevailed in the end, though, winning a game that included 17 lead changes and 15 ties by shooting 55.9% from the field, including 65.5% in the second half. Jaeger scored 26 points to lead six Lakeland players in double figures.
Isaiah Hammond also added 14 points and 13 rebounds. The loss leaves the Muskies in tough shape in their attempt to qualify for the eight-team NACC Tournament. Lakeland needs to win its final three games and would need a lot of help to make the conference tourney.
Concordia last time out: Lost at MSOE 88-75 Wednesday
The Falcons were unable to hold a halftime lead and fell to the Raiders on the road in Milwaukee. Freeman Jackson scored 28 points and CUW shot 50.9% as a team, but MSOE was even better, especially in the second half shooting 69.6% (16 of 23) and making 8 of 9 from three-point range to split the season series between the teams. The Raiders went on two big runs to take control, first outscoring Concordia 17-6 to go ahead early in the second half, and then using a 19-5 spree to take the lead for good midway through the second half.
Concordia is still in good position to make the NACC Tournament, coming into this game at 8-7 and fifth in conference and leading a tightly bunched pack. Three teams are one game behind the Falcons at 7-8 and another (Edgewood) is 1 1/2 games behind CUW in ninth. Concordia opened the season with five straight losses but has steadied since, and won 7 of 9 games before recently losing three of its last four.
