Series history: 78th meeting, Lakeland leads 41-36
The Muskies hold the all-time series lead, but the Warriors have won 11 of the last 14 meetings, including the teams' matchup earlier this season in Milwaukee. Lutheran posted a 97-86 victory Jan. 10 as Ryan Broeckel finished with 34 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots. Lakeland's last win in the series came just over two years ago at the Woltzen Gymnasium with a 77-75 victory Jan. 26, 2022, when
Cam Jaeger made the go-ahead three-pointer with 29 seconds remaining. The series dates back to Jan. 27, 1982, when Lakeland won the first meeting 131-54, and the Muskies won the first 10 meetings before WLC's first win in the series in Jan. 1990.
Lakeland last time out: Lost to Aurora 82-62 Wednesday
The Muskies had few answers against the Spartans, who never trailed and sent Lakeland to its fourth straight loss.
Brayden Kennedy scored 16 points including four three-pointers and
Cam Jaeger added 14 points, but the Muskies shot 38.1% and were outrebounded 50-30. Aurora led by double figures the entire second half and by as many as 25 points late.
Wisconsin Lutheran last time out: Defeated Edgewood 76-58 Wednesday
The Warriors kept pace with St. Norbert, remaining in a tie for first in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with their sixth straight win. Ryan Broeckel scored 18 points and ripped down 21 rebounds and WLC cruised despite shooting well below their season average at 40.8%. The Warriors held the Eagles to 32.7% shooting and had five players score in double figures, never trailing in winning their 20th game for their first 20-win season since 1995-96.
It also is the first 20-win season for head coach Aaron Aanonsen since his Lakeland team went 22-6 in 2012-13. Aanonsen coached at Lakeland from 2008-17 and is the second-winningest coach in program history, winning 137 games, and he has won 105 games in seven years at Lutheran with three NACC regular season championships.
