OSHKOSH, Wis. –
Tucker Gegenfurtner (
Fr.-Onalaska, Wis.) hit his first collegiate home run, one of the highlights for the Lakeland University baseball team in a 16-3 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in a non-conference game Saturday.
Gegenfurtner hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to continue a solid freshman season that sees him among the Muskies' leaders in a number of hitting categories. Lakeland (6-23 overall) was unable to do little else to slow down Oshkosh, though, and fell to the Titans in a non-conference game added to the schedule during the season after the cancellation of a non-conference doubleheader against Maranatha Baptist University.
UWO (16-13 overall) scored four times in the first inning and 12 times over the first three innings to build a big early lead. The Muskies briefly stemmed the tide with two runs in the second inning, as
Kejuan Harvey (
Sr.-Elgin, Ill.) reached on an infield single to drive in
Kellen Hodges (
Sr.-Littleton, Colo.) and
OakLee Spens (
Sr.-South Weber, Utah) hit a double to score Harvey and make it 4-2.
UW-Oshkosh would outhit Lakeland 15-6 for the game, including three hits and six RBIs by Mason Kirchberg. Carter Stebane also went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Aiden Blaszkowski (
Fr.-Fort Campbell, Ky.) fared best among a committee of seven Muskies pitchers. Blaszkowski came on in relief in the third and pitched 1 1/3 hitless innings with a strikeout.
Lakeland returns to play Wednesday when it hosts Edgewood College for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader starting at noon.
