FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Marian University rapped out 33 hits over two games and the Lakeland University baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Marian's Herr-Baker Field.
The Sabres won by scores of 11-0 and 15-4, including the first game scheduled for seven innings and the second scheduled for nine but shortened to seven by the 10-run rule. Marian improved to 22-14 overall and 15-7 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, while the Muskies in their final road games of the season fell to 7-30 overall and 2-20 in conference.
Lakeland was held to five hits in the first game, including two each by
OakLee Spens (
Sr.-South Weber, Utah) and
Dylan Costello (
So.-New Berlin, Wis.). The Sabres scored two runs each in the first and second innings, but then blew the game open with seven runs scored in the bottom of the fifth.
A big inning also put the Muskies behind the eight-ball in the second game, after Lakeland had taken an early lead.
Tucker Gegenfurtner (
Fr.-Onalaska, Wis.) hit a two-out double to score Spens and give the Muskies a 1-0 lead, but Marian scored a run in the bottom of the first to tie and then took control with five runs in the third.
The Sabres also added two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and four more in the sixth. Lakeland got a run back in the fourth when
Landon Mani (
Fr.-Germantown, Mich.) was hit by a pitch and later scored on a play including a wild pitch and a throwing error. The Muskies also scored twice in the seventh when
Kellen Hodges (
Sr.-Littleton, Colo.) reached on an error,
Kaden Kowalewsky (
Fr.-Madison, Wis.) singled on the infield for his first collegiate hit and
Dominic Davi (
Sr.-New Lenox, Ill.) hit a double to drive in both.
The Muskies finish out their NACC schedule on Friday when they host Milwaukee School of Engineering for a doubleheader starting at noon.
