APPLETON, Wis. – The Lakeland University women's tennis team got started on a new season and dropped a 7-0 decision to Lawrence University Thursday evening.
The Vikings captured the point for winning the majority of the doubles matches and then also won all six singles matches, including two by forfeit. Lawrence picked up three of its match wins by forfeit and improved to 1-1 overall.
The Muskies had their best performance in doubles at the No. 2 flight.
Mary Johnson (
Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) and
Emily Pautz (
Sr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) were defeated 6-3 by Fanta Jatta and Madi Mishica of Lawrence.
Pautz also won games at No. 3 singles before falling to Tess McGlenn of Lawrence 6-2, 6-2.
Olivia Heling (
Jr.-West Bend, Wis.) also was defeated by Anna Vanden Acker at No. 1 singles by a 6-2, 6-3 score.
Lakeland plays for the first time at home this season on Saturday when it hosts Illinois Institute of Technology in its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener at 10 a.m. at Sports Core in Kohler.
