KOHLER, Wis. – Mary Johnson (Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) and Emily Pautz (Sr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) made a push in their doubles match but the Lakeland University women's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Illinois Institute of Technology Saturday at Sports Core.

The Muskies lost their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener to the Scarlet Hawks and dropped to 0-2 overall on the season. Lakeland fell in all four contested singles matches and both contested doubles matches as Illinois Tech improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference.

Johnson and Pautz competed at No. 2 doubles and fell to Angelica Conwell and Paige Geiger by a 6-4 score. Pautz also had the best showing for the Muskies in singles play, winning four games in a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Geiger at No. 3 singles.

Olivia Heling (Jr.-West Bend, Wis.) and Alexis Labonte (Fr.-Portage, Ind.) were defeated by Martyna Kalinowska and Hannah Markiewicz 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Labonte also won three games in a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Markiewicz at No. 2 singles.

Lakeland is home again for its next match against Concordia University Chicago Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Sports Core.
