Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Seniors play leading roles as Muskies top Regents

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Jordan Davis-Troller (Sr.-Cottage Grove, Wis.) scored again and Matt English (Sr.-Cheyenne, Wyo.) notched a shutout on Senior Night as the Lakeland University men's soccer team defeated Rockford University 2-0 Saturday evening at John Taylor Memorial Field.

Roman Riggs (Fr.-North Liberty, Iowa) also scored his first collegiate goal and the Muskies surpassed their win total from last season, improving to 5-6-2 overall. Lakeland also moved to 2-4-2 and into eighth place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with four conference matches remaining in the season.

The Muskies overcame some rocky moments early in the match to keep the game tied and scored just before halftime to take the lead. Madden Skurka (So.-De Pere, Wis.) attempted an initial shot in the 43rd minute from outside the 18-yard box that was blocked, but went right to Davis-Troller, who made a quick move and fired from 13 yards out straight on into the upper left corner for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Lakeland took the 1-0 lead into halftime and its Senior Night ceremony honoring senior members of the team Davis-Troller, English, Eduardo Campuzano (Hinckley, Ill.), Omero Cornejo (Carpentersville, Ill.) and Brahm Dell Adema (Plano, Texas). The Muskies then came out strong in the second half and cashed in less than 12 minutes into the second 45 minutes. Chris Ledesma (Fr.-Georgetown, Texas) from the midfield sent a ball ahead to Austin Eigenberger-Vahsholtz (So.-Grafton, Wis.) behind the defense. Eigenberger-Vahsholtz took a few touches before finding a trailing Riggs, who punched it in from eight yards out into the upper right corner for his first goal and a 2-0 lead.

The Muskies would keep Rockford off the board the rest of the way, though not without several close shaves. The Regents (2-10-1 overall, 1-6 NACC) had some good chances, with none better than in the 89th minute. Rejhan Jakupi got behind the defense on the left side for a one-on-one with English, but the Lakeland goalkeeper stood tall and stopped the shot, and a rebound shot by Rockford's Lane Mendoza went wide of the goal.

English finished the game making five saves for his first shutout for the Muskies. Davis-Troller totaled five shots and Riggs added four as Lakeland outshot Rockford 15-12, including 12-5 in the second half.

Wesley Pritzlaff made five saves in goal for the Regents, who controlled the game's first 20 minutes, registering the game's first five shot attempts before the Muskies' first shot from Skurka in the 26th minute.

Lakeland goes on the road for its next three games, starting at Milwaukee School of Engineering Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
