MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee School of Engineering erupted for five goals in the second half and defeated the Lakeland University men's soccer team 6-0 Wednesday night at MSOE's Viets Field.
A close game at halftime got away in the second half as the Muskies fell to one of the top teams in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Lakeland dropped to 5-7-2 overall and 2-5-2 in conference, while MSOE improved to 10-3-2 overall and 7-1-1 in the NACC.
The Muskies hung with the Raiders for 45 minutes, allowing just a single early goal in the 14th minute by Ditar Useni. Lakeland even had three solid opportunities late in the first half to tie the score, including
Porter Gigstead (So.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) and
Roman Riggs (
Fr.-North Liberty, Iowa) both getting off shots inside the 18 that were stopped by Raiders goalkeeper Asher Harris.
MSOE scored less than six minutes into the second half with a goal by Alex Lamb, though, and would score three times in a span of less than 14 minutes to take a 4-0 lead. The Raiders tacked on two more goals in the last 13 minutes to close the scoring.
Matt English (
Sr.-Cheyenne, Wyo.) made four saves in goal for the Muskies and
Brady Wazny (
Jr.-Green Bay, Wis.) added one save. The Raiders finished with a 24-5 advantage in shots including an 11-4 lead in shots on goal.
Lakeland is on the road again for its next match Saturday at Dominican University in River Forest, Ill., with game time set for 2:45 p.m.
