Olivia Heling (
Sr.-West Bend, Wis.) closed out an excellent career with another singles win, fellow senior
Mary Johnson (
Sheboygan, Wis.) also won her final singles match and the Lakeland University women's tennis team fell to Concordia University Chicago in its season finale Sunday.
The Muskies won three matches but fell to the Cougars 5-2 in the dual, with Concordia earning the single doubles point for winning two of three doubles matches. Lakeland wrapped up its season finishing winless in eight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference duals.
Heling won her third match of the season at Number 1 singles, defeating Amelia Engelman 6-3, 6-4. The senior closed out her career with 16 singles wins in four years, including 15 of those wins coming at No. 1 singles.
Heling's singles wins total is the most by a Muskie since Nicole (Shavlik) DeRoehn won 21 matches from 2009-11 while competing at No. 1 singles. She finishes a career that included being named NACC Freshman of the Year in 2022-23, earned first team all-conference recognition as a sophomore, and was the inaugural recipient of the NACC's FAR Award for women's tennis.
Johnson also earned the win at No. 2 singles, defeating Amirah Shakir 6-1, 6-3. Johnson earned her first win while competing at No. 2 singles all season, moving up after competing at No. 4 singles last year.
The Muskies also added a win at No. 3 doubles, where
Yuu Narita (
Sr.-Tokyo, Japan) and
Reina Imabuchi defeated Arriyanna Amison and Courtneye Schneider 6-2. Narita also nearly extended her No. 5 singles match to a tiebreaking third set before falling to Amison 6-3, 7-6 (2-0).
Lakeland also just missed a win at No. 2 doubles, where
Ireland Brickner (
Jr.-South Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Serena Brunner (
Sr.-Elkhart Lake, Wis.) took a narrow 6-4 loss to Concordia's Sarah Gustafson and Hannah Upole.
