PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Lakeland University's
Malaya Sperber (
So.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) was named an honorable mention selection when the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference released its postseason awards for the women's soccer season Thursday.
Sperber was recognized for her work as a midfielder and forward for the Muskies this past season, when she ranked among the NACC's leaders in goals scored. She gives Lakeland a member of the all-conference team in women's soccer for the second straight year and just the fourth time since 2013.
Sperber finished the season scoring eight goals and adding an assist for 17 points scored. She led the Muskies in goals and points and also ranks 10th in the NACC in goals scored and 12th in points scored per game (1.06).
Sperber finished the season playing as one of the best players in the conference, scoring six goals over Lakeland's final six matches. Twice she recorded the game-winning goals in victories, and 34 of her 44 shots for the season also came in the last six games. Her play was a big reason the Muskies finished 2-3-1 in their final six games after a 0-10-1 start to the season.
Sperber was named honorable mention all-NACC one year after current teammate
Ingrid Steinbock (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) received the same recognition. Lakeland put players on the all-conference teams in successive years for the first time since 2010 and 2011.
