NCAA Division III Region 5 includes the American Rivers Conference, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, the Midwest Conference and the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, conferences covering the states of Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.
Banks, Collins and Michael give Lakeland its most all-region selections since 2021, when Larry Rivers, Shazon Crutcher and Otis Watts all were named second team all-Region 5 picks. The trio also added onto previous postseason awards that included Michael being named a first team all-NACC pick as well as the conference's Offensive Skill Position Player of the Year, while Banks and Collins also were first team selections.
Banks took over as a starter at cornerback in the second game and went on to intercept seven passes, leading the conference and tied for second nationally in Division III at the end of the regular season.
Included in his season was a record-setting game against Concordia Chicago Nov. 1, when Banks intercepted three passes, returning two for touchdowns of 55 and then 100 yards. His 175 yards in interception return yards in the game set a new D-III single-game record, breaking a mark set more than 42 years earlier. He is one of just two freshmen to make the first or second teams on the all-Region 5 squad, and the lone to do so on offense or defense.
Collins closed out a strong four-year career in the Muskies' secondary starting all 10 games at safety and making 42 tackles (30 solo, 12 assisted), including five tackles for loss.
Collins also intercepted four passes, tied for second-best in the conference, and broke up four more passes. He finished his career with eight total interceptions as a three-year starter.
Michael put up some of the most impressive numbers of any quarterback in the country as a senior. He completed 216 of 396 passes for 2,909 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while also rushing 225 times for 797 yards and 11 touchdowns. He led the NACC in passing yards and total offense, was second in passing touchdowns and fourth in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
Michael also ranked among the NCAA Division III leaders in a number of categories all season, and closed the regular season third nationally in total offense (370.6 yards per game). He also was eighth in total points responsible for (216), ninth in points responsible for/game (21.6) and 11th in total passing yards and passing yards/game (290.9).
