Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pipers pounce early, Muskies fall in men’s soccer home debut

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Hamline (Minn.) University scored just over three minutes into the match and the Lakeland University men's soccer team faced an uphill battle the rest of the way in a 5-1 loss Friday night at John Taylor Memorial Field in a non-conference game.

Jordan Davis-Troller (Sr.-Cottage Grove, Wis.) scored for the second straight match but the Pipers built a 3-0 lead by halftime and stayed undefeated on the season at 2-0-1. Lakeland dropped to 1-2 overall.

Hamline scored just 3 minutes, 5 seconds into the game on a goal by Luis Mancilla, one of several successful rushes by the Pipers in the first half. Clarence Weah added a goal in the 25th minute and Chris Palma added a goal in the 40th minute to make it 3-0.

The Muskies had fewer opportunities but still several good ones, including hard work by forward Roman Riggs (Fr.-North Liberty, Iowa) twice for shots saved in the first half. Davis-Troller and Brahm Dell Adema (Sr.-Plano, Texas) also had great chances early in the second half with shots just off target, but Hamline extended the lead in the 62nd minute with a goal by Edgar Flores Vasquez.

Lakeland got on the board in the 68th minute with a quick give-and-go executed by Davis-Troller and Dell Adema, with Davis-Troller making the first pass and then receiving one back across the box from Dell Adema and burying it into the upper right corner of the net to make it 4-1.

Hamline added a final goal with just over three minutes left as Mancilla scored on a free kick for his second goal of the match.

The Pipers posted a 16-11 advantage in shots including a 14-4 bulge in shots on goal. Matt English (Sr.-Cheyenne, Wyo.) made seven saves in goal in getting the start and Jeremiah Reynolds (Fr.-Huntley, Ill.) made two saves in the final eight minutes.

The Muskies are home again Sunday to take on Martin Luther (Minn.) College at 3 p.m. at Taylor Field.
