Series history:Â The Muskies have dominated the all-time series with Milwaukee School of Engineering, one that dates back to 1981, but the series has been very competitive in recent years. Six of the last seven meetings have gone at least four sets, including four of those matches going a full five sets. Lakeland won last year's meeting in Milwaukee in four sets with a 25-14, 15-25, 25-21, 25-8 victory as
Samya Hughes delivered 20 kills,
Maleigha Kovalaske added 15 kills and
Sydney Gay racked up 43 assists. The Muskies also won the last time the teams met at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium, holding off MSOE for a five-set victory Oct. 5, 2023. The Raiders' last win was a five-set victory Oct. 12, 2021 at home. Lakeland has largely dominated the series, and though records are incomplete, it is known that the Muskies won 26 straight matches in the series between 1995 and 2009, as well as 10 straight from 2011-19 before MSOE won twice in 2021.
Lakeland last time out: Defeated Rockford 3-0 Saturday
The Muskies were in charge throughout in a 25-8, 25-16, 25-14 win over the Regents for their second Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win in less than 40 hours.
Ryan Figi finished with 15 digs, and her first dig of the match made her the 17th player in program history to reach 1,000 digs for a career. Lakeland trailed only three times total in the match, all in the early stages in the first and third sets, and won by sweep for the ninth time this year. Kovalaske finished with 10 kills and
Faith Baker added eight kills without an error in 10 attacks.
Laura Pearson added four blocks,
Katie Westerholm dished out 20 assists and
Sydney Gay piled up a career-high five service aces.
MSOE last time out: Defeated Concordia Wisconsin 3-0 Saturday
The Raiders wrapped up a big week with a sweep of the Falcons, prevailing 25-21, 25-15, 25-19 at home in Milwaukee to stay undefeated in the NACC. Emma Schattschneider piled up 18 kills and added 15 digs and seven service aces in a huge effort and Ella Notheisen added eight kills plus a team-high 16 digs. MSOE won two days after posting the biggest conference win by any NACC team so far this year, taking down three-time defending conference champion Edgewood in five sets last Thursday to snap the Eagles' 29-match winning streak in conference play.
MSOE has been the surprise team in the NACC so far this season. The Raiders finished 7-20 overall last year and 5-8 in conference matches to place ninth in the league and miss the eight-team NACC Tournament. An all-NACC pick two years ago as a freshman, Schattschneider is back after an injury last year and ranks third in the conference in kills per set (3.46) and is in the top 15 in aces, hitting % and digs too.
