Lakeland tops Edgewood for first NACC win behind Weinrich’s career high

MADISON, Wis. – Eli Weinrich (Sr.-Mequon, Wis.) delivered a career-high 16 kills and the Lakeland University men's volleyball team broke through for its first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win of the season, defeating Edgewood University in four sets Tuesday night at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.

The Muskies defeated the Eagles 25-19, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23 to snap a four-match losing streak and improve to 6o-10 overall and 1-2 in the NACC. Lakeland defeated an Edgewood team it lost to a year ago and the Eagles dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-2 in conference.

Weinrich posted 16 kills with four errors in 28 attacks for a .429 hitting percentage, as well as adding a team-high three service aces. He recorded the most kills by a Muskie this season and broke his previous career best of 13 kills set twice in his sophomore season in 2024.

Weinrich's total included six kills in the fourth set, the closest set of the match with nine ties and four lead changes and when Lakeland came back from four points down on two occasions, the last time at 16-12. The senior registered three of the Muskies' final four points with kills, including a kill on the second match point.

Weinrich was one of five Lakeland players to reach double figures in kills for the night. Sage Xiong (So.-Erie, Colo.) also finished with 12 kills, Jakob Donohue (Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) totaled 11 kills and Jordan Davis-Troller (Sr.-Cottage Grove, Wis.) and Colin Putchinski (Fr.-Waukesha, Wis.) added 10 kills apiece.

Lakeland finished hitting .291 for the match with 62 kills and 23 errors in 134 attacks. The Muskies hit .233 or better in all four sets, including a best of .394 with 17 kills and just four errors in the opening set.

Chase Anderson (Sr.-Hartford, Wis.) also tied a career high with 52 assists and Luke Schultz (Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) and led the team with 13 digs. Xiong also added 11 digs.

Cade Schueller led Edgewood with 16 kills, but only one other Eagles (Carsyn Stringfellow, 10 kills) posted more than five kills. The Eagles hit .250 as a team with 43 kills to just 14 errors and also added 13 blocks.

Lakeland looks for its second win in a row on Saturday when it hosts Rockford University at 1 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
