Linders, Ziebell top list of four Muskies receiving all-NACC softball postseason honors

Callie Linders (Jr.-Griffith, Ind.) and Natalie Ziebell (So.-New Holstein, Wis.) were named all-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference selections, leading four members of the Lakeland University softball team to receive postseason honors as announced Thursday by the NACC.

Linders and Ziebell were joined by Abby Heitman (Sr.-St. Francis, Wis.) and Lily Pettit (So.-Rewey, Wis.) as honorable mention selections. The four were honored in a Muskies' season that is finished with a 26-17-1 overall record and included a tie for fourth in the conference with a 16-8 league mark.

Linders was one of the breakout players in the NACC this year, earning all-conference honors for the first time after playing in a reserve role her first two years at Lakeland.

The junior center fielder hit .396 with 55 hits, six doubles, two triples, 26 runs batted in and 32 runs scored. Including a team-leading 23 walks, she also posted a team-best .479 on-base percentage.

Linders led the Muskies in batting average, hits and runs, tied for second in triples and finished third on the team in RBIs and tied for third in doubles. She also ranks fourth in the NACC in walks, seventh among regulars in on-base percentage and is 10th in the conference in hits and runs.

Ziebell became one of the NACC's top pitchers in her second year in getting all-conference recognition for the first time. She finished 9-8 with a 2.02 earned run average, throwing eight complete games including three shutouts. In 121 1/3 innings she allowed 128 hits, 45 runs (35 earned) with 44 strikeouts and 28 walks.

Ziebell led the Muskies in ERA, complete games, shutouts, innings pitched and strikeouts, and also is second in the NACC in ERA. She also ranks third in the conference in innings pitched, sixth in opponents' batting average (.267) and tied for seventh in wins. Ziebell's statistics were good enough for a much better record, but she took the loss in five games where she allowed two earned runs or less.

Heitman had the best season of her career as a senior in earning honorable mention for the first time in her four years. Playing in left field and at catcher, she hit .331 with 42 hits, nine doubles, three triples, one home run, 29 runs batted in and 21 runs scored.

Heitman set career highs in almost every single major hitting category, including average, hits, doubles, triples, RBIs and on-base percentage, as well as hitting her first collegiate home run, a three-run homer to tie a game that eventually finished in a tie against nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh. She led the team in doubles and triples, finished second in RBIs and was third in hits and fourth in batting average and runs scored.

Pettit also received all-NACC postseason recognition for the first time in her career after forming a formidable 1-2 starting pitching combo with Ziebell.

Pettit finished 11-4 with a 2.57 earned run average with four complete games, two shutouts and also two saves. In 92 2/3 innings she allowed 94 hits and 44 runs (34 earned) with 21 strikeouts and 12 walks. She led the Muskies in wins and was fifth in the conference in wins and opponents' batting average (.265), sixth in ERA and also was again one of the best pitchers in the NACC in not issuing walks, with her 12 walks allowed ranking second among regular pitchers in the conference. Pettit's 0.91 walks per 7 innings ranks 26th nationally in NCAA Division III.

A pair of Muskies also were honored after the recently completed NACC Tournament, as Ziebell and Sam Marchant (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis.) both were named to the all-tournament team. Ziebell pitched in four games in the tourney and posted a 0-2 record with a 2.33 ERA, including allowing three earned runs over 17 1/2 innings in Lakeland's final three games of the tourney. Marchant batted .363 in the tournament over four games and also from behind the plate threw out two runners trying to steal.
