Fifth-seeded Muskies open NACC volleyball tourney tonight at Aurora

Resilient all season, Lakeland College will look to pull a few surprises in the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament, beginning tonight with the Muskies' first round match at Aurora (Ill.) University at 7 p.m. at Aurora's Thornton Gymnasium.

The Muskies (17-16 overall) are seeded fifth of six teams in the tourney after tying Aurora for fourth place in the NACC this season, with both finishing with matching 7-4 league records. The Spartans (22-11 overall) won the regular season match between the two teams, though, to earn the tiebreaker between the two teams and the right to host tonight's match.

Aurora defeated Lakeland in four sets back on Oct. 10. Lakeland won the first set 25-18, but things went south from there as Aurora won the final three sets 25-12, 25-15, 25-7. Peyton McKenzie and Brooke Pylant combined for 23 kills with just six errors between them in that first match as the Spartans hit .279 as a team while the Muskies barely stayed in the positive, hitting .035.

Live video from tonight's match will be available from Aurora at http://athletics.aurora.edu/sports/2010/9/16/livevideo.aspx?id=66.
