Andrew Wagner (
Sr.-West Bend, Wis.) scored the deciding win in the heavyweight class to give the Lakeland College wrestling team a 14-12 win over St. John's (Minn.) University in their second match of the Muskie Quadrangular duals held Saturday at the Woltzen Gymnasium.
Wagner defeated Byran Scepaniak 10-4 at 285 pounds as the Muskies came from behind for their first dual match win of the season. Lakeland won four of seven contested matches, including the last two to earn the team win.
Jeremy Kroeger (
Sr.-Villa Park, Ill.) preceded Wagner by winning a major decision at 197 lbs. Kroeger defeated Dino Saracco 8-0, which pulled the Muskies within a point at 12-11 entering the final match.
Also victorious against the Johnnies were
Ian Gioacchini (
Fr.-Kaukauna, Wis.) and
Mitchell Fucile (
So.-Chilton, Wis.). Gioacchini earned a 10-3 decision over Tevin Zavadil at 141 lbs., while Fucile won a 9-1 major decision over Brian McCann at 165 lbs.
Lakeland finished 1-1 on the day after previously falling to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville 31-17 in its first match. The Muskies surrendered three matches by forfeit but won four of seven contested matches.
Gioacchini, Fucile and Kroeger all posted wins against the Pioneers in finishing 2-0 for the day. Gioacchini posted a 9-1 major decision over Jeremy Peterson, Fucile also won a major decision by defeating Randy Wade 12-2, and Kroeger pinned Michael Cole in 3:33.
Eddie Terres (
Jr.-Escanaba, Mich.) also posted a win against UW-Platteville, defeating Dylan McShane by a 7-3 decision.
UW-Platteville also defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering 35-16 and St. John's 35-11 to post a 3-0 record on the day. MSOE also finished 1-1 with a 28-24 win over St. John's, while the Johnnies finished 0-3 on the afternoon.
Lakeland will next compete in the Wheaton College Invitational on Jan. 30-31 in Wheaton, Ill.
