Box Score 4 CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Lakeland College men's volleyball team opened its second varsity season by splitting four matches at the Charlie Wrublewski Invitational, hosted by Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University Saturday and Sunday.
The Muskies opened both days with losses before rallying to win their second matches of the day. Lakeland lost in five sets in its season opener to Milwaukee School of Engineering (25-21, 25-17, 21-25, 20-25, 16-18) before coming back to defeat 15th-ranked Medaille (N.Y.) University in four sets (22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16).
The Muskies then lost to host school Mount St. Joseph Sunday morning in four sets (20-25, 24-26, 25-17, 20-25) but battled back for a four-set win over Marymount (Va.) University (23-25, 31-29, 25-17, 25-20) to close the two-day event.
The highlight of the weekend was Lakeland's win against Medaille in its first match against a ranked team this season.
Alec Redlich (
Sr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) paced the team with 17 kills and 10 digs, while
Kyle Krogstad (
Jr.-Chicago, Ill.) had three of the Muskies' eight service aces.
Lakeland's attack in all four matches was led by Redlic, who got the season started with 75 kills over four matches, including a high of 22 against Marymount.
Tim Robbins (
So.-Wheaton, Ill.) also finished with 33 kills and
Casey Bolda (
So.-Honolulu, Hawaii) added 31 kills.
Jordan Smith (
Sr.-Channahon, Ill.) set the offense with 151 assists, while
Cole Aiazzi (
Jr.-Yerington, Nev.) led the team with 44 digs. Robbins led the team with 18 blocks (four solo, 14 assisted), while Redlich, Krogstad and
Jeremy Mark (
Sr.-Roselle, Ill.) all shared the team lead in service aces with five each.
Lakeland will head east again this coming weekend when it travels to Greenville, Pa., for a tournament hosted by Thiel (Pa.) College. The Muskies open play on Saturday against Penn State University-Altoona.
