Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Grayvold scores 25 as Muskies get back in win column

Bailey Grayvold (So.-Norway, Mich.) scored a career-high 25 points and the Lakeland College women's basketball team snapped a losing skid with an 81-73 win over Rockford (Ill.) University Tuesday night at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

Grayvold scored 19 of her 25 points in the second half and also added seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Rachel Stankevich (Fr.-Goodman, Wis.) also added 14 points, 11 rebounds and five steals as the Muskies improved to 3-10 overall and 3-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Lakeland made an early lead stand up, scoring the game's first nine points and racing out to a 15-1 lead. The Muskies never trailed, but still received a battle from the feisty Regents (2-11 overall, 1-7 NACC), who made a run before halftime and stayed within single digits for much of the second half.

Lakeland built its largest lead late in the first half when Gaby Cappaert (Jr.-Stephenson, Mich.) drained a three-pointer to make it 42-27 with 4:30 left in the half. Rockford closed the half on a 12-2 run, though, whittling the lead down to five at 44-39 by the break.

The Regents crept as close as three early in the second half when Amanda Davis hit a jumper to make it 48-45, but the Muskies slowly reasserted control from there. Grayvold hit a three-pointer to make it 55-47 with 14:11 to play, and Trista Barron (Jr.-Escanaba, Mich.) followed with a layup on the fast break to push the lead back to ten. Rockford never got closer than seven the rest of the way.

Barron added 12 points to give Lakeland three players in double figures, while Cappaert added nine points off the bench. Kayla Clark (So.-West Bend, Wis.) also added a team-high four assists.

Lakeland was disruptive defensively with 15 steals while forcing the Regents into 25 turnovers. The Muskies shot 42.6% as a team (29 of 68) and also hit 16 of 20 from the foul line (80.0%).

Katie Clark led Rockford with 18 points and made all seven of her field goal tries. The Regents shot 44.3% (27 of 61) and also out-rebounded Lakeland 44-40.

The Muskies are back on the road Saturday when they travel to River Forest, Ill., to face Dominican University at 2 p.m. in conference play.
