MEQUON, Wis. –
Jake Maechtle (
Sr.-Port Washington, Wis.) earned the lone win in competition for the Lakeland College wrestling team in a 34-15 loss to Concordia University Wisconsin Friday night at the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse.
Maechtle defeated Concordia's Pierce Holtfreter on a 6-3 decision for three points for Lakeland. The Muskies' other 12 points came via forfeit wins by
Mat Gonzalez (
So.-Manistique, Mich.) at 149 lbs. and
Mitchell Fucile (
So.-Chilton, Wis.) at 165 lbs.
Just five matches total were contested at the ten weight classes. The Falcons won the final four matches of the night, starting with a victory at 174 lbs. where Mason Mergener pinned
Mason Lind (
Fr.-Brandon, Wis.) in 2:52.
Concordia also earned wins at 184, 197 and 285. Mitchell Slatton defeated
Eddie Terres (
Jr.-Escanaba, Mich.) by a 10-6 decision at 184 lbs., Jake Reuteler decisioned
Jeremy Kroeger (
Sr.-Villa Park, Ill.) 9-1 at 197 lbs., and Paul Carter edged Lakeland's
Andrew Wagner (
Sr.-West Bend, Wis.) 6-3 in the heavyweight class.
Lakeland now gets ready for the Northern Wrestling Association Championships next Saturday, to be hosted by Concordia starting at 10 a.m.
