The Lakeland College baseball team will make a rare appearance in Sheboygan and will also be honoring veterans and military personnel when it hosts Edgewood College for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader this weekend.
The Muskies will face the Eagles for a twinbill at Wildwood Park in Sheboygan on Sunday, April 26 beginning at noon. Wildwood Park is the home of the Sheboygan A's, an amateur team that competes in the Wisconsin State League, the Northeastern Wisconsin League, and the Langsdorf League of Southeastern Wisconsin.
The Muskies also will be honoring servicemen and women as part of the day. An admission donation is requested at the gate, and all admission proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Raffle prizes will also be given away, and a 50/50 raffle will also be held with proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project.
All military personnel who show their identification at the gate will receive a raffle ticket for prizes to be awarded. Prizes will include Lakeland baseball apparel including hats and T-shirts, as well as an autographed and framed jersey of former Milwaukee Brewers star Robin Yount.
Lakeland also will be wearing camouflage jerseys for the occasion. Head coach
Mike Bachar hopes to make this event a regular for the Muskie baseball program.
"It's something we've thought about doing before, I saw a commercial for a similar promotion and thought it was really cool," said Bachar. "Feeling like I could never do what our military and servicemen and women do, I really respect those that fight for us and make it possible for us to be college coaches and baseball players, so this is a small way to say 'thank you' to them for all they do."
Lakeland will be playing at Wildwood Park for the first time in five years. The date also will mark the final home games for the Muskies this season.
