RIVER FOREST, Ill. –
Mitchell Fucile (
Jr.-Chilton, Wis.) won all three of his matches to provide one of the bright spots for the Lakeland College wrestling team at its home Lakeland Duals Saturday inside the Wehr Center fieldhouse.
Fucile won three close decisions against tough competition, providing three of his team's six individual victories on the day. The Muskies finished with a 0-3 record in their matches, losing to the University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and University of Dubuque.
Competing at 165 pounds, Fucile defeated Chicago's Nick Ferraro 8-5 in the Muskies' 40-13 loss to the Maroons. He scored a narrow 3-2 win over Ryan Behnke for the lone victory in Lakeland's 45-3 loss to UW-Eau Claire and then added a 10-3 win in his team's 39-6 loss to Dubuque.
Wesley Colton (
Sr.-Rockton, Ill.) also won twice on the day for the Muskies at 184 lbs. He defeated Patrick Mulkerin of Chicago via 11-2 major decision and also claimed an 8-2 decision over Collin Heidemann of Dubuque.
Marcus McCauley (
Sr.-Hillpoint, Wis.) grabbed the other win for Lakeland, pinning Mason Williams of Chicago in 4:50 in the team's first dual.
The Muskies competed shorthanded for the day, with just seven wrestlers competing in six weight classes due to injury. Among those finishing winless,
James Spencer (
Fr.-Dafter, Mich.) had two close losses at 125 lbs., falling 4-0 to Zack Sirny of UW-Eau Claire and 7-5 to Julio Chavez of Dubuque.
Mat Gonzalez (
Jr.-Manistique, Mich.) also lost to narrow decisions at 157 lbs., including a 3-1 loss to Carter Focht of UWEC and a 3-0 loss to Dubuque's Kody Krenz.
Dubuque and UW-Eau Claire both finished with 3-0 records for the day. Saint John's (Minn.) University was 2-1, Chicago finished 1-2, and Milwaukee School of Engineering finished 0-3.
Lakeland's next event will be the Cornell College Matman Invitational next Saturday in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
