OSHKOSH –
Brittini Scoles (
Sr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) finished with 14 kills but the Lakeland University women's volleyball team was swept in three sets by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Wednesday night in a non-conference match.
The Muskies nearly came back to steal the third set but ultimately were defeated 25-12, 25-19, 25-23 by the Titans at UWO's Kolf Sports Center. Lakeland stepped out of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play but dropped to 9-17 overall.
Scoles supplied the lone standout hitting performance for the Muskies, with 14 kills along with eight errors in 33 attacks. She finished with nearly half of Lakeland's 32 kills, and was the only member of the team with more than five kills.
UW-Oshkosh (14-14 overall) brought a strong block, posting nine team blocks for the match, including seven by Shelby Coron. The hosts also hit .220 with 35 kills and just 11 errors in 109 swings.
Shelby Welsh (
Jr.-Ogallala, Neb.) led the Muskies with 15 digs while
Allison Errthum (
Sr.-Joliet, Ill.) added 13 digs.
Taylor Bubolz (
Fr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) led the setters with 12 assists with
Davan Fleming (
So.-Cremona, Alberta, Canada) adding nine assists.
Tina Elstner led Oshkosh with 12 kills. Rachel Gardner also finished with 11 digs.
Lakeland is back in NACC play Friday when it travels to face Edgewood College at 7 p.m. in Madison.
