APPLETON – The Lakeland University women's volleyball team enters the postseason on a roll after winning two more non-conference matches Saturday afternoon at Lawrence University to close out the regular season.
The Muskies defeated St. Norbert College 25-15, 25-11, 21-25, 25-22 and then dismissed host school Lawrence 25-20, 25-13, 25-23 to finish 2-0 on the day. Lakeland is now 15-17 overall and enters its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinal match at Dominican University on Tuesday having won six straight matches.
Lakeland was in control of both matches, allowing Head Coach
Ryan Schopf to substitute freely in the out-of-conference tilts. Fourteen players participated in the first match against St. Norbert, and a total of 16 played at least one set against Lawrence.
The Muskies did have to work to put away both teams. St. Norbert rebounded to win a close third set and then led late in the fourth set before Lakeland scored four straight to take a 21-18 lead and held on the rest of the way. Lawrence also was tied at 19-all late in the third set and still down just one at 24-23 before
Shelby Welsh (
Jr.-Ogallala, Neb.) finished the match with a kill.
Welsh finished with nine kills in both matches plus a combined 15 digs over the two matches.
Brittini Scoles (
Sr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) also had 10 kills in the opener, when
Shannon Bishop (
So.-River Grove, Ill.) also totaled nine kills and
Emilie Schartner (
Jr.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) finished with seven kills in 10 attacks (.700 hitting percentage) against St. Norbert plus five blocks in both matches.
Shelby Block (
Fr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) added six kills against Lawrence and
Emily Grzesiak (
So.-Spokane, Wash.) also added five kills.
Allison Errthum (
Sr.-Joliet, Ill.) finished with 50 digs on the day, including 29 digs against Lawrence.
Neenah Primas (
Fr.-Oostburg, Wis.) finished with 33 assists and 17 digs over the two matches, and
Taylor Bubolz (
Fr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) led Lakeland with 18 assists against St. Norbert.
