Lakeland drops two NACC contests at Aurora

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Lakeland University baseball team had a weekend it would be glad to forget as it was swept by Aurora (Ill.) University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

The Muskies were defeated by scores of 25-6 and 19-1 by the Spartans, who used a number of huge innings to win both ends of the twinbill. Lakeland dropped to 10-14 overall and is now 2-6 in the NACC, while Aurora improved to 17-10 overall and 6-4 in league play.

The Spartans wore out Lakeland pitching with a combined 47 hits over the two games. Aurora also had outbursts of eight runs on two occasions in the first game and then got the scoring started with a 10-run second inning in the nightcap.

Drew Richard (Jr.-Kieler, Wis.) hit a two-run homer in the first game, his first career collegiate home run. Jack Banks (Fr.-Mountain View, Calif.) also had two hits and drove in a run, while Travis Regalado (So.-Willcox, Ariz.), Brandon Punzel (Fr.-Escanaba, Mich.) and Chris Leopold (Jr.-Bolingbrook, Ill.) also drove in single runs.

Bryan Bridges (So.-North Chicago, Ill.) singled and later scored the Muskies' lone run in the second game, coming in on a wild pitch. Jaired Dozier (So.-Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the offensive attack with two hits.

Adam Lipscomb had four hits and drove in eight runs in the opener for Aurora. Michael Fidler went 3-for-4 with six RBIs in the second game, while Jeffrey Mayes went 7-for-9 over the two games with seven RBIs and four runs scored.

Lakeland is back home again Monday when it hosts Edgewood College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
