Jenna Borts (
So.-Oak Creek, Wis.) scored first half goals and the Lakeland University women's soccer team picked up its first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Alverno College Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies snapped a nine-match winless string in conference and earned its fifth win of the season, improving to 5-11-2 overall (1-8-1 NACC). Lakeland now is 1-1-1 in its last three matches, which also includes a tie with Aurora University last week.
The Muskies posted a big 20-6 shots advantage in the first half and it paid off, first with Daehling scoring unassisted in the 14th minute when she cleaned up a corner kick deflection for her third goal of the season. Lakeland added a second goal just over 12 minutes later as Borts stayed with it after an initial shot block and also scored her third of the year.
Lakeland added onto its lead early in the second half.
Rachel Hasko (
Jr.-Racine, Wis.) scored her team-best seventh of the season, with
Hope Cerney (
So.-Green Bay, Wis.) setting it up with her team-high fifth assist. Alverno (4-13 overall, 0-10 NACC) was kept off the board until the 84th minute, when Kayla Kunz scored to make it 3-1 with 6:08 left in regulation.
The Muskies finished with a 27-14 shot advantage in the match, with Cerney attempted seven and Hasko and Borts adding five and four shots, respectively.
Erin Tomlinson (
Fr.-Madison, Wis.) made nine saves in goal to earn the win.
Lakeland closes out its season on Wednesday when it travels to face Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
