After picking up its second win of the season last week, Lakeland University looks to get on a roll to close out its campaign when it welcomes Benedictine University on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Taylor Field.
The Muskies will battle for position in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference when they face their most-played rival on Saturday. Lakeland and Benedictine both come in with 2-5 overall marks and 2-2 records in the NACC ahead of their 51st meeting all-time.
The Muskies used the ground game to get back on track with a 38-12 win over Wisconsin Lutheran last week. Lakeland boasted three 100-yard rushers in a game for the first time since 2005 as
Charl'Tez Nunnery (129 yards),
Larry Rivers (118) and
Dezmon Eddie (105) all hit the century mark. On defense,
Ezekiel Combs added six tackles, two tackles for loss and an interception on defense, and he,
Johnathan Hagerty and
Paul Saucedo all had interceptions as the Muskies forced five Warriors turnovers.
Benedictine is coming off a 50-20 loss to NACC newcomer Eureka last week on the road. The Red Devils led 50-0 in the third quarter before Benedictine made the final score respectable with three touchdowns over the final 15 minutes. Quin Brown rushed for 101 yards for Benedictine and Brandon Moore caught a touchdown pass and returned a punt for a touchdown, but Eureka rushed for 420 yards as a team and held time of possession for more than 37 minutes in remaining undefeated.
Lakeland has defeated Benedictine three straight times, including a 57-21 rout a year ago at home, a game in which eight different Muskies scored touchdowns. The Eagles' last win in the series was a 16-0 victory at home in Lisle, Ill., in the 2014 season finale, a win that clinched Benedictine a trip to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Lakeland will provide live stats and live video for the game at
