Series history: 42nd meeting, Lakeland leads 22-19
Lakeland and Benedictine have been meeting on the basketball court since 1949, when the two schools were known as Mission House College and St. Procopius College, respectively. The Eagles won this season's first matchup 93-63 in Lisle, Ill. on Nov. 30, 2019. The two teams split a pair of meetings last season, as Lakeland edged Benedictine 90-88 at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium on Dec. 1, 2018, but Benedictine won another close game 78-73 on Feb. 9, 2019. The first meeting ever between the schools came over 70 years ago on March 2, 1949, when Mission House defeated St. Procopius 56-48 in Lisle, Ill.

Lakeland last time out: Lost at Aurora 87-80 Wednesday
Aurora held off a late Muskies rally as a 21-point first half deficit proved too much to overcome. The Muskies cut a big deficit down to four in the final two minutes but got no closer and saw their three-game winning streak stopped. Lakeland also slipped back into a tie with MSOE and Rockford for fourth place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with three games to play in the regular season. Lakeland made 17 three-pointers in the game, one short of the school single-game record of 18 set against Wisconsin Lutheran Feb. 26, 2008. Eric Jordan scored 22 points off the bench and hit seven threes in 12 attempts.

Benedictine last time out: Lost at MSOE 65-64 in overtime Wednesday
The Eagles saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end as the Raiders' Michael Pitrof hit a pull-up jumper with two seconds left in overtime for the game-winning basket. Benedictine trailed for much of regulation, including by as many as 13 points in the first half, but Kenny Bogus made four free throws late in regulation to send the game to an extra session. Eric Grygo had a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds in the loss and led four Eagles scoring in double figures.

About the Eagles: Benedictine has been ranked or receiving votes in the NCAA Division III national top 25 rankings for most of this season, rising as high as #19 nationally according to D3hoops.com. The Eagles are ranked 24th this week in the D3hoops.com poll, and enter this game tied for first in the NACC with Wisconsin Lutheran with a 14-3 conference record. Grygo is one of the conference's best players as he currently averages a fifth-best 17.4 points per contest on a league-leading 66.8% field goal percentage.

Recapping the first meeting: The Muskies and Eagles met in Lisle, Ill. on Nov. 30 in both teams' first games after Thanksgiving. Benedictine shot 55.2% in the first half to pull ahead and win going away, leading by as many as 32 points. Lakeland shot 44.8% for the game, making 26 of 58 shots, hit just 3 of 20 from three-point range and also committed 23 turnovers.

Senior Day: Today is the final regular season home game for four Lakeland seniors. Honored before the game will be Isaac Anderson, Carlos Campos, Deonte Carlton and Sam Kaminski. All four have been members of the Muskies men's basketball team for four years, and to date they have been part of 47 wins, including a fourth-place finish in the NACC as sophomores when they qualified for the NACC Tournament.

NACC tourney picture: Lakeland enters the game still in good shape to make the NACC Tournament, as it is solidly in the top six coming in and two games clear of Aurora and Illinois Tech tied for seventh with 7-10 marks. The race for a top-four seed and a home game to open the tourney, though, became much more interesting with the Muskies' loss to Aurora and MSOE and Rockford both winning that same night to move into a tie with Lakeland. MSOE already has defeated the Muskies twice this year, while Rockford won the first meeting with Lakeland this year and hosts the Muskies on Tuesday. Lakeland could potentially clinch a berth in the tourney with a win Saturday and with losses by both Aurora and Illinois Tech.
