but the Sabres hold a 29-10-3 lead in the series since 1987. Marian has won the last five matchups, including most recently a 2-0 win at Taylor Field Oct. 9, 2019 as Chase Hayden and Chris Nelson scored goals and Kevin Cervantes made five saves for the shutout. Lakeland last defeated Marian on Oct. 21, 2014, scoring a 2-0 win at home. Brian Herrmann scored the go-ahead goal in the 63rd minute and Mirko Tadic added an insurance goal with 4:06 left for the final score. Marian won what is believed to be the first ever meeting between the schools in 1983, posting a 3-0 win on Sept. 20, 1983.
Lakeland last time out: Defeated Edgewood 2-0 last Wednesday
The Muskies have been idle since a week ago but in their last time out topped the Eagles last Wednesday at Taylor Field.
Michael Barragan scored the first goal, burying a free kick from 28 yards out early in the second half, and
Suleiman Haji also added a goal in the final minutes for insurance. Lakeland controlled play a good portion of the match, outshooting Edgewood 19-9 and
Zach Heiman made four saves in goal for his second shutout of the season.Â
The Muskies improved to 2-0-1 in their last three games and are 3-1-1 in their last five as they continue to hold hope for a spot in the six-team NACC Tournament. Lakeland enters the night ninth in the conference standings, four points behind the team (Aurora) currently holding the sixth and final position.
Marian last time out: Won at Aurora 3-1 Saturday
The Sabres also are coming off a win, going on the road and knocking off the Spartans on Saturday. Zach Paxton scored the first goal in the first half and freshman Giuliano Corazzina followed with two goals early in the second half to stage Marian to a 3-0 lead. Aurora outshot the Sabres 21-11 for the match but Aden Jerome made seven saves in goal to earn the win.
Marian sits behind Lakeland in the NACC standings with a 2-8 mark, but the Sabres' two conference have been good ones. In addition to the win over current sixth-place team Aurora, Marian also has a win earlier this month over second-place Dominican, a regular power in the conference. The Sabres have one of the most dangerous scorers in the NACC in Corazzina, third in the league with 10 goals scored and second in points with 24, and Drew Cowden also leads the conference with 11 assists.
